Housing Kitsap has been offering the USDA's Mutual Self-Help Housing Program in Kitsap County and surrounding counties since 1973.

This unique and rewarding program allows income eligible applicants the opportunity to own their own home by participating in groups of 8-12 families to build each other’s homes with lots of help and training from Housing Kitsap. Mortgage payments are subsidized - based on total household income - making it more affordable for hard-working families and individuals to own a home.

We changed our house plans in 2009 to become more energy efficient and environmentally friendly, which ultimately cuts homeownership costs. All of our houses meet Northwest Energy Star® requirements, exceed Washington State’s Evergreen Standard® and achieve all 3 stars in the Kitsap Built Green Program®.  We have reached this high level of efficiency by incorporating radiant floor heating, advanced framing techniques, high value insulation and high performance windows, combined with air leakage sealing and testing. These features allow for lower energy and water costs for our homeowners.
